Writer in Residence Kimmy Beach is offering 4 separate workshops and readings to help the writer of any genre, at any stage, to understand the world of writing a little better, a little differently, a little deeper. Sign up for one or for all of them.

Wednesday 7 November
Getting Published: The Triumph and the Tragedy: Traditional Publishing? Self-Publishing? What’s right for you? We’ll look at a broad spectrum of Canadian book publisher guidelines, journal submission guidelines, and the path to self-publication.

Tuesday 12 November
So, you want to be an editor? I’ll break it down for you: How to find work, build a portfolio, and boost your confidence. Becoming a full-time freelance editor is doable, but don’t be fooled by courses and webinars that promise instant results and crowds of clients. Building an editing business is hard work. Are you up for it?

Monday 18 November
Bill C-11 (The Copyright Modernization Act): Not all it’s cracked up to be: The James Bond books came into the public domain in 2014. But before that, I had a battle on my hands with my new James Bond book and the copyright laws. Also, the one and only time I’ve ever told Paul McCartney to get out of my life.

Wednesday 27 November
Stephen King knows what he’s talking about: What to read to improve your writing. + a reading of Kimmy’s own work: From Anne Lamott to William Zinsser, we’ll look at the books that line my writing and editing shelves. I'll read my favourite passages from the best writing and editing guides out there.
