Consider the power of books, libraries, books clubs, and women together discussing ideas.

Aritha van Herk is the author of five feminist novels, Judith, The Tent Peg, No Fixed Address, Places Far From Ellesmere, and Restlessness, as well as the irreverent but relevant history of Alberta, Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta.

Her work focusses on women’s work and women’s voices, and how women have influenced and continue to influence the life and culture of the west.

Aritha will join our Pink Tea to talk about:

What am I fighting for?  Don’t vote the way your husband tells you to.

At this time, when women’s bodies have become a battleground, and we actually hear a politician say that women shouldn’t have the vote, my rage index is rising. The question of women’s capacity to discover, to flex the muscles of curiosity, to change the world, and to change our minds, is under a magnifying glass, and we ignore the potential consequences at our peril. We need now to practice a social, political, and cultural subversion that does not allow our power or freedom to be eroded.
